When Gayle Pershing set out to compile this invaluable resource, she was amazed by how many reading games she had invented through the years for grades K-3. As a Reading Teacher in Missouri, she is constantly trying to motivate children into learning their reading.
As an interesting sidebar, Ms. Pershing was our first U.S. customer of Star Gazer's Guided Reading CD and continues to use this program in her school.
According to Ms. Pershing, children love these board games. It encourages them to learn how to take turns, good teamwork and sportsmanship as well as to read.
There are three main games on the CD with multiple gameboards.
Children get used to the format and can pick up any game, isolating a new sound or a new phonemic cluster, and improving their reading in spades. Initially, children may need more support when learning how to play these games but eventually, they can play these games independently in the classroom.
Each school gets a license of use with purchase and can print 100 percent from the CD. Schools may also put it on their school network to make it readily accessible to all staff.
Ms. Pershing further recommends that teachers bring in their colour printers to make game boards up or send them out to be printed, then laminate them for years of use.
And that's not the end of uses for this resource. Ms. Pershing has been so kind as to leave multiple game boards at the end of this CD for you to make up your own games.
