Get More Guided Reading For Less Cupcake Money Please, come see our samples of Star Gazer's Guided Reading Kit for K-3 in English, French, Spanish and German. to gain an instant tactile association with words. We even have entire school districts with licenses and CD's! We'd like to take this opportunity to explain a little about why guided reading is the best thing since sliced bread. What is Guided Reading? Guided reading is a philosophy that allows a child to learn and experience words without rote learning and fear from 'doing it wrong'. The teacher, parent, caregiver take on the role of a guide and the child is at the forefront of learning. How is it done in schools? In the school setting where staff allows, students are divided into groups of six or lower to go through a reading lesson with the teacher or volunteer taking on the role of a guide. There is usually a pre-reading session and a post reading session as well as a word activity and a whole activity. Stories are usually read the first day, the second day and reviewed a month from when they were first read. Where was it invented? We give credit to the schools in New Zealand and Australia who pioneered these techniques. But naturally, we also give credit to teachers and parents who have been using this philosophy all the time by saying, "Let's learn and have some fun reading today!" Why guided reading? We have a belief in guided reading based on our own experiences. The author of this kit saw her father use this kind of program on her older brother every day for a year. Her father would return home from work after 12 or 16 hours, sit her brother on his lap and flip to the next story. And while the school definitely had her brother as a challenging case, her brother is now a professional with a great job today and literacy! Personally speaking, we have used this CD with children who are falling behind in the their reading at school, experiencing hardship even gaining an understanding of reading and those who are gifted. What does our program have that others don't? Now of course, we get into comparing apples and oranges; or in this case, caviar and cornmeal. Our kit is $199.99 for the CD Canadian or $179.99 U.S. for the CD and a license of use for your school. With the average kit costing a mere $8,000 Canadian, $7,000 dollars U.S., it is a fair statement to say that our program is affordable. And while the more expensive programs offer four colour printing as a way to bring you back, consider that children can colour in our books. Certainly, we don't want to pick on our fine competitors who send out a mere 6 books per title, but we want to point out that a school can print as many copies of each story as they want to any day of the week. While the colours on the regular programs will fade and become dull, our CD will still print up gorgeous copies thirty years from now. Our easy-to-use lessons include pre-reading, post reading, a word activity and a whole activity. But the best part about our lesson plans is that they are easy-to-use. You can send them on vacation with kids and parents. And this is the best part too, our stories are all fiction. Chlidren love fiction. We love fiction. More fiction, please! In addition, our program starts from a very low level, meaning if you use A to D levels on your three year old over and over again, they will have no problem moving on once they have the basic concept of what it is like to read. Most programs start higher up. We want to also take this opportunity to assure you that the program is easy-to-use on the computer. Open up Acrobat Adobe Reader and then start opening files from the CD. Please, also look at our samples. Remember that PDF's on the web take time to load from the internet but from the CD, they take just seconds to come up on the screen. |
